Halovine

HalovineAlthough founded as recently as 1996, by Steve Taylor, an academic based at the LSE and Sue Howes, an A-Level teacher, halovine quickly established itself as one of Britain's leading educational film companies. It was set it up in response to the lack of good supporting visual materials in the social sciences, particularly for A Level teachers and students.

Our key idea was to take some of the more complex and abstract theoretical and methodological ideas - the ones students usually find most difficult to understand and relate to - and bring them to life by applying them to students' everyday experiences. It was a policy right from the start to include students in all our main programmes.

Halovine programmes have received universal critical acclaim from educationalists and teaching journals. They have proved extremely popular with school and colleges. They sell world wide, and are now used in over 65% of the institutions teaching sociology and psychology in Britain.

Online Classroom

Our latest development has been made in collaboration with Channel 2020. Here we’re looking at the changing classroom and the new possibilities it creates for integrating video based material seamlessly into classroom teaching and learning.

Our new Short Cuts series represents the future of our video productions. Rather than the 25-30 minute structured format of our former collections these are short 5 - 10 minute videos on topics, methods and key studies in each subject, giving teachers much greater scope to select and integrate the material into their classrooms

All our programmes are made in consultation with teachers about topic, style and content and we look forward to hearing from you about future productions.
